2011 HooDoo VooDoo Blues Ball

Artist Statement:
It is an absolute honor to have my art selected to represent the 24th annual Riverwalk Blues and Music Festival. For this, my 10th year as the "official artist" of the festival, I wanted to create something special. Instead of my usual illustration, I've created a 30x40 acrylic painting.
I love the idea of depicting legendary Blues stories. In 2011, I illustrated Robert Johnson and the Devil at the crossroads for the HooDoo VooDoo Blues Ball. For this piece, I was inspired by a story I heard about B.B. King rescuing his guitar from a burning juke joint.
To me, this painting is about more than just King’s story. It’s represents many bluesmen, any bluesman and every bluesman. It’s about passion, love and loss. And that IS the blues.
